What must be checked before integrating an x86 board?
Verify the operating system image, expansion devices, display paths, storage, power, BIOS behavior, thermal solution and enclosure before approving the board. Connector presence alone does not confirm driver or application compatibility.
Integration checklist
| Area | Items to validate |
|---|---|
| Platform | Processor class, memory configuration and graphics workload |
| Storage | Interface, boot support, endurance and service access |
| Expansion | PCIe, M.2, USB, serial, GPIO and bandwidth sharing |
| Firmware | BIOS settings, auto power-on, watchdog and secure boot |
| Thermal | Cooling path, ambient condition, throttling and fan policy |
| Recovery | Image deployment, rollback and field replacement |
How should a prototype be validated?
Test it in the production enclosure with final storage, memory, displays, cables and expansion devices. Include power cycling, thermal load, suspend/resume, watchdog and network recovery.
What documentation should be retained?
Retain the approved board revision, BIOS version, operating system image, drivers, settings, test record and assembly instructions so production units can reproduce the accepted prototype.
